The Blog of Daniel

Just my place to write without any delusions of self-importance.

40 something years.

Alicia and I went out to dinner tonight and we got to talking about life changes…

When I was in my late teens, my parents were involved with Amway, and when you’re in Amway, you can’t help but be sucked into the cult of personalities of the people above you.  The thing I loved the most was their wealth and the thing I hated the most was their constantly talking about God and Jesus, even if it was in the prosperity gospel context, which I knew nothing of anyway.  Now I see it clearly in 1 Corinthians 1:18 which reads “For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”  That was 40 something years ago.

Just less than half of those years ago I was still incredibly desiring status in the world.  I once searched my full name on Google and there was no less than 20,000,000 results for me specifically.  Years later, when I saw it had dropped to about 40,000 I became incredibly depressed for months because I did not want to be forgotten when I was gone.  Just now I looked again and it’s down to 1,090 search results and I praise God for it because if not a single person on Earth remembers me, I now know that I am known on a very personal level by the very One who created the universe and all that is in it.  He is the only search result I am interested in.
