Amber's Abode

live long and suffer?!

I tried to get up this morning for church, but could not because they put me on some new medicine to keep me from getting blocked because I am on regularly scheduled pain medicine now until after my surgery.  This new medicine is not happy until one goes, and it's not really picky about the time or place.  So I'm going to be sticking fairly close to home.  I have to call my doctor tomorrow to find out when the surgery is.  And meanwhile I just feel so rotten and discouraged.this isn't me, and I'm beginning to be afraid that even the surgery to fix my catheter either is too late, or won't fix anything at all.  I don't feel like myself at all, it's just wrong and I'm terrified.

The only good thing is that about a week ago or so I got my kindle.  I also got the metal stand and light to go with it, and a cover.  Like Daniel says, it is a wonderful device.  I have read two complete books already, and it's the only thing that keeps my mind off of all the other crap that's going on to me and around me.  The only little problem I have with it is with the little tiny four-way controller button.  You are supposed to try to use your thumb, but I can't, so I have to use a fingernail, and sometimes the cursor goes up down or sideways when I mean to click it to select something.  Interestingly enough, I find that I can usually get it on the first shot when nobody is watching me or waiting for me.  Same thing with sliding the very small power switch to wake it up.  My dad didn't think that I would be able to do it, but I can.

I especially love the text-to-speech feature.  You can turn it off and on "on-the-fly," and you can change the speed and the voice from male to female.  You can also put it on text-to-speech and turn the volume all the way down if you want the device to automatically turn pages for you.

I also saw the new Star Trek movie a couple days ago.  It was completely awesome.  If you're a fan of the original show series at all, you have to see this movie.  It's about how it all began for most of the primary characters, as well as the maiden voyage of the enterprise itself.  And Leonard Nimoy is in the film as well, as an elder Spock!  Because there is of course the requisite black hole.  But the new cast is amazing as well, especially Kirk and Spock who were cast dead on.

That's all I have to write for now.  Happy Mother's Day to all of the mothers.
