Amber's Abode

The day from hell

It all started when my brother-in-law that lives nearby me came into my room yesterday afternoon and said "I sold all your books; is that okay?" I've never been so violated in my whole life is what that feels like.  And then he tore me a new one about being out late the night before.  Like I'm one of his soldiers that he can chastise.  My whole lifetime collection of books, other than a few I was smart enough to bring with me.  It was so bad that by the time he left I was in tears.  The people here told me to call my other brother in law who is a hero.  So I did, in tears.

The good brother-in-law called the other one, apparently, to ask him about what happened.  So 20 minutes later, my nearby sister calls me, more angry than I've ever heard in my entire life.  Talking about how I can't fight my own battles and I don't need to turn my family against each other and on and on and on.  She wouldn't shut up until I promised to call the other brother-in-law and apologize to him for using him in that way.  So I did, and the dear one was confused.  When I further explained the developments, he was actually in tears for me as well.  I told him that these people aren't my family.  I told him that I don't even know these people and they scare me.

I told him that a lady, my massage giver and friend, is going to pick me up or meet me on Monday so that I can go see my ailing best friend while he is still here.  I told him that she is family, that a couple of guys who arranged to raise money so that I can go to camp are my family.  I told him about a guy who is going to give me the opportunity to be a DJ outside of my own head, a dream for my whole life.  That person is my family, my brother.  Not someone who steals from me both possession and dignity.  And good brother-in-law, though he doesn't always understand my choice of friends, agrees.

But there is more to this day from hell.  I decided that I needed to go see a nearby friend just get out of the house for a while.  The people here wanted to try to fix my flashing lights first, which somehow have become unplugged.  So apparently, although they were not able to solve the problem, they moved my battery case a little.  When I tried to cross the train tracks to catch my train, the battery shook loose and fell down, leaving me unable to move in the middle of the the railroad tracks.

I seriously thought I was going to die at that moment.  And I would have, if not for a passing teenage boy on his bike.  He managed to shove my chair off the tracks like 30 seconds before the train came.  He fixed my battery case and went with me the rest of the way to my friends house to make sure I got there safe.  For the rest of the night, I was adrenaline charged and a little sad about the contrast between my so-called family and a perfect stranger.  Thank you, Phil.

And I wanted to tell you all that I love you.  That everyone who reads this is in a way a part of my chosen family, my Tribe.  May you all always feel positive energy being sent out in your direction.  You matter to me more than you will probably ever know.
