A corporate scam?

How many of you out there who will read this feel the same way that Chan does about Valentine's Day?  He feels that this holiday is nothing more than a corporate holiday, where companies attempt to take advantage of you, and your wallet.  Every year as Valentine's Day rolls around, we have some sort of conversation about whether we need to celebrate it or not because the way he sees it, he doesn't need a special day to tell me, or show me that he loves me.  If he's going to do that, he'll do it just because he wants to, not because the calendar says he's supposed to.

To a certain extent, I agree with him if thelove you have for someone is strong, true, and real, then why do you need a specific day on the calendar to give you the incentive to show them how you truly feel?  If it's true, strong, and real, shouldn't you be finding ways to show them or tell them every day?

There is that very small female part of me (and I don't address this part of myself very often, so some of you might want to take note Smile) that can't and won't ever agree with him completely.  Yes, there are 364 other days during the year where, if you have true love for someone, you could, and should be showing them that, but there's also something very very special about having a particular day dedicated to having someone to show you just exactly how special you are to them.  Now, don't get me wrong, it's not that I expect anything extravagant, or even anything much bigger then what he uses on a daily basis to show me he loves me, just knowing that more likely than not, I'm going to get a little something extra on this particular day makes me smile!

In a lot of ways, you could say I'm a sucker for surprises!  Wait, no, that doesn't really work either because due to the fact that he feels the way he does about Valentine's Day, the women in his life almost always get the same thing every year, so after four years, it's not really much of a surprise anymore if I really think about it!  So what is it then?  Honestly, the more I think about it, I really don't know.  There's just something about the whole concept of the day that makes that very very small part of me very, very, very, giddy!  Smile
