Speeding Ticket (my first one)

Well it finally happened, I got a speeding ticket. I thought I might skate up to being 40 before getting one but hey, whatever. I was going through Byron Illinois and decided to stop cat a Casey's General Store to get a soda and Becca had to use the restroom.

After pulling out of the Casey's I started heading south on rt 2. I had already passed a couple of speedtraps when I entered the town but I still accelerated a bit before the 40mph sign which signals leaving the town and getting back on the road. Sure enough some youngter cop pulls out behind me with his lights flashing.

It was an Oregon cop. The nice part about that is they don't waste time. They don't want you to appear in court and they don't want to miss their next speeder so I was stopped for less than 3 minutes (hard to complain).

Oregon needs money pretty badly and for a small town is really suffering under the weight of meth. The town is in shambles and there are broken whiskey/beer bottles all over the once proudly maintained entrance to the town. I've heard rumors that the cops will take a bit of cash instead of issuing the citation but I didn't risk it. I didn't say anything to the officer at all outside of the word yes. I kept my hands up and visible the entire time except for when I retrieved my wallet and everything went smoothly. I also did not pull away before he did.

On the way back towards home I went 25 miles an hour for a couple of miles before entering Byron from the Oregon side. A few vehicles had accumulated behind me and a white van attempted to pass me in a no passing zone out of frustration. The driver of the van saw the speed trap and put her hand over her mouth and swerved back into line behind me. She was not pulled over. heh
